Route confirmed 20 September 2026This is also the morning the bioregion farms are collected from, so salad and herbs here are cut the previous eveningAuroville addresses are described by community name rather than street, so tell us the community and the nearest landmark once and it stays on your account. New residents and guests should expect the first delivery to take a phone call; after that it does not.

Where the van goes on a Tuesday morning

The bioregion run starts at the farms rather than at the town. By 5.30 am the van is collecting from the Auroville-side growers — salad, herbs, greens, eggs, whatever was cut the previous evening — before it turns back towards the packing table and then out again on the delivery leg.

The delivery order runs roughly: Kuilapalayam first, where most of the guest houses and the early-service kitchens are, then Edayanchavadi and Kottakarai (the Ganesh Bakery corner is a useful landmark for anyone giving directions), then the Auroville residential communities themselves, then out to Kottakuppam along the ECR and the Periyamudaliarchavadi and Bommayapalayam stretch. Most addresses land before 9 am.

Addresses here work differently from town. Nobody has a street number; everyone has a community name and a landmark. That is fine — give us the community, the nearest turning and a phone number on the first order and it goes on the account permanently. The only genuinely difficult deliveries are the ones down unnamed sand tracks in the rain, and we will call rather than guess.

Why this zone exists at all

Auroville has 3,527 residents from 61 nationalities, including 401 French, 227 German, 164 Italian, 100 American and 96 Dutch. It grows some of the most credible organic produce in India. And unless you hold an Aurocard or an Auroville account, you largely cannot buy it.

Food Link, the township's central farm-produce distribution point, runs a retail market Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm and does not accept cash — payment is only through an Auroville account or an Aurocard. PTPS serves Aurovilians and Aurocard-holding guests; PTDC is members only. Solitude Farm's weekly basket is genuine and excellent, and it is pickup-first with one delivery day into Pondicherry. Auroville's own online shop sells shelf-stable goods and no fresh produce. Naturellement, whose preserves have demand as far as Chennai, has no online shop at all.

So this route exists to be the plain, unglamorous alternative: a van, three mornings a week, a published price, and a QR code or a ₹500 note at the door. Newcomers, guests, volunteers, guest house owners, the Kottakuppam households on the other side of the ECR, and plenty of long-term Aurovilians who simply find a Tuesday morning delivery easier than a 10 am to 3 pm window in the middle of their working day.

What this zone takes, and what it does not

Heaviest lines here

  • The Organic Box at ₹1,299 — the most-taken box on any route
  • Salad, basil, rocket and soft lettuces, much of it grown four kilometres away
  • Free-range eggs, curd and paneer on standing lines
  • Native rice, millets and cold-pressed oils in 5 kg packs
  • Harbour fish for guest houses feeding non-vegetarian guests

Things we get asked and cannot do

  • Sell you anything from inside PTDC or Pour Tous — we hold no card either
  • Promise Food Link's full range; our bioregion line is narrower and we list it weekly
  • Deliver on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday — those mornings the van is in town
  • Reach communities down unnamed tracks in heavy rain without a phone call first
  • Supply Naturellement's full range; they have no wholesale channel and no online shop

Questions we answer daily

Do you deliver groceries to Auroville?

Yes, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings between 7 and 10 am, to the Auroville communities, Kuilapalayam, Edayanchavadi, Kottakarai, Kottakuppam, Periyamudaliarchavadi and Bommayapalayam. The cutoff is 8 pm the evening before, and guest houses are dropped from 6.45 am.

Do I need an Aurocard to order?

No. Food Link takes only an Auroville account or an Aurocard and does not accept cash, and PTPS and PTDC are for cardholders and members. We take UPI, a card link or cash at the door from anyone — resident, guest, volunteer, guest house or a household in Kottakuppam.

Is your produce grown in Auroville?

The bioregion line is, and each bag names the farm and the date it was cut. The rest of your order — Bahour vegetables, harbour fish, Nilgiris carrots — is not, and is labelled accordingly. We do not call a Villianur tomato Auroville produce because it arrived on the Auroville van.

How do I give an Auroville address?

Community name plus the nearest landmark and a phone number. Nobody here has a street number and we do not expect one. The first delivery to a new address usually takes one phone call; after that it is on the account and the driver finds it.

Can you deliver to an Auroville guest house before my guests arrive?

Yes. Pre-arrival hampers start at ₹1,650 with 48 hours' notice in the October to March peak, delivered on the Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday morning nearest the arrival. Guest houses with regular turnover usually move to a standing weekly order from ₹1,500 instead.

What does the Organic Box cost here?

₹1,299 a week for about 8 kg, delivery included, with no surcharge for the bioregion run. It carries ten vegetables with the farm named on each, salad leaves, basil, two keerai varieties, one organic fruit and six free-range eggs, and Tuesday is the box morning for this zone.

Do you deliver to Kottakuppam and the ECR side?

Yes, on the same three mornings, as the last leg of the run — Kottakuppam, Periyamudaliarchavadi and Bommayapalayam usually land between 8.30 and 10 am. Free delivery applies above ₹500 here exactly as it does inside Auroville.

Should I use Solitude Farm instead?

If what you want is the farmer relationship and you can collect, quite possibly yes, and we will say so. Their weekly basket with the salad kit is real, pickup is Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the cafe, and they deliver into Pondicherry on Wednesdays. We are the better fit if you need three mornings a week, a fixed window and a price before you order.
