The zone, street by street
Muthialpet is the Tamil quarter that runs north from the old town towards the sea — a dense, low-rise grid of narrow streets where houses open straight on to the road and a delivery van is a pedestrian for the last part of every drop. The zone covers Muthialpet proper, Kuruchikuppam and Vaithikuppam along the coast, Solai Nagar, and the residential streets running back inland.
It is the fastest zone on the route to clear despite the narrow roads, because the drops are fifty metres apart rather than five hundred. On a normal Tuesday the whole zone is finished by 9 am, which is why it shares its mornings with Lawspet and the Auroville bioregion run — the van can do all three before the day gets hot.
Kuruchikuppam and Vaithikuppam are fishing settlements as well as residential streets, which matters for what we sell here and is worth being straightforward about.
Selling fish in a fishing neighbourhood
Puducherry has about 45 km of coast and more than 25 sea fishing settlements along it, and two of them are inside this zone. People here have bought fish off a boat their whole lives. They know what a fresh gill looks like, they know what the morning rate should be, and they do not need a website to explain formalin to them.
So we sell less fish in Muthialpet than in any other coastal zone, and that is entirely reasonable. When we do, it is usually for convenience rather than access — a working household that cannot get to the landing at 6.30 am, or a standing order for a particular cut. What sells well here instead is everyday vegetables, keerai, coconut and the Small Box at ₹499, because the fish problem is already solved and the vegetable problem is not.
The one thing this zone does buy from us at volume is sankara at ₹340 a kilo, cleaned and cut at the packing table. Not because it is cheaper — it is not — but because the cleaning is included and that is forty minutes of a morning back.

Why would I buy fish from you when I live next to the landing?
Mostly you should not, and we would rather say so. Where we are useful is cleaning and cutting, included at no charge, and a standing order for a particular cut on a fixed morning. Sankara at ₹340 a kilo, cleaned, is the line that actually sells here.
What is the minimum order in Muthialpet?
₹300 per delivery for households. Free delivery once your invoice reaches ₹500, and a flat ₹40 below that. The Small Box at ₹499 has no separate minimum and includes delivery, which makes it the simplest option for a two-person household here.
When does the box arrive in this zone?
Tuesday mornings, the same day as the Auroville and Lawspet runs. The Small Box at ₹499 is the most common here — eight everyday vegetables, two bunches of keerai or herbs and about a kilo of seasonal fruit, for two people.
Do you deliver in the afternoon?
On a route day, yes. An order placed before 11 am on a Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday can join the 4 to 7 pm top-up run in this zone. On other days, the next morning is the earliest — we run a scheduled route, not a standing fleet.
