This zone is the grid of the old French quarter, bounded by the beach road on the east and the canal on the west. In practice that means Goubert Avenue along the Promenade, Rue Dumas, Rue Suffren, Rue Romain Rolland, Rue de la Marine, Rue Saint Louis and the cross streets between them, plus the stretch around Bharathi Park and the Aayi Mandapam, the Raj Nivas side, the lanes behind the French Consulate and Notre Dame des Anges, and the Ashram quarter around Rue de la Marine.
It is the easiest zone on the route to work and the hardest to park in. Most of it is one-way, several lanes take a van only at walking pace, and the Promenade end is closed to vehicles in the evening — which is one more reason our deliveries happen at 7 am rather than at 7 pm. If you are in a heritage building with a courtyard entrance, tell us which gate on your first order and we will note it permanently.
Beyond the canal the zone becomes Heritage Town, which runs on the same four mornings and the same window. If your address sits ambiguously between the two, it makes no practical difference — the van does both on the same run.
This zone buys differently from everywhere else we deliver, and the pattern is consistent enough to plan the van around.
Exotics and salad lead. Basil, flat-leaf parsley, rocket, soft-leaf lettuce, cherry tomato, avocado and English cucumber move here in quantities that the western zones never touch. Part of that is the French-heritage households; part is the concentration of cafes and small restaurants in a few hundred metres; part is the guests in short-let villas who are cooking European food in a rented kitchen.
Fish is a weekend line. Households here order seer and prawns for Friday and Saturday rather than sardine and mackerel through the week, which is the opposite of the pattern in Muthialpet and Ariyankuppam.
Sack staples barely register. Almost nobody in this zone buys 25 kg of rice. The staple orders are 1 kg packs of native rice and millets, cold-pressed oil by the litre and palm jaggery — the exploratory end of the pantry rather than the bulk end.
Pre-arrival stocking is a White Town phenomenon. More than half our villa stocking requests are for addresses inside this grid, concentrated between October and March when the town is full.
Goubert Market is a short walk or a shorter auto ride from most of this zone, it opens early, and on a Sunday morning it will beat our prices on everything. We publish the Grand Bazaar range next to our own rate precisely so you can decide which mornings are worth the walk.
Zepto and Swiggy Instamart both cover central Puducherry and Blinkit runs dark stores in the town. For a forgotten packet of salt at 9 pm they are unquestionably the right answer. We are the answer for the vegetables and the fish.

This zone takes more exotic and salad produce than any other on the route — basil at ₹45 per 100 g, rocket, soft lettuces, cherry tomato, avocado on pre-order. Bioregion-grown lines arrive on the Auroville run and reach White Town on the following morning, so Monday and Wednesday are the best days for salad.
