Delivery in Heritage Town, Mission Street and the Tamil Quarter
The old Tamil quarter west of the canal, a five-minute walk from Grand Bazaar — which is exactly why we are honest about where a delivery van earns its place here.
In short
The Tamil Quarter, Mission Street, Nehru Street and Ambour Salai are on the Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday route, 7–10 am, cutoff 8 pm the evening before. Box morning is Wednesday. The zone, street by street
Heritage Town is the Tamil quarter that sits west of the canal from White Town — the older, denser half of the colonial grid, where the French-planned streets give way to Mission Street, Nehru Street, Bussy Street and the market lanes around Ambour Salai. It is residential, commercial and tourist all at once: family homes above ground-floor shops, textile and gold stores along the main roads, and a growing cluster of heritage guest houses in the restored mansions.
We deliver here four mornings a week because the drops are close together — thirty of them can fit inside the 7 to 10 am window when the addresses are a minute apart rather than five. The zone runs straight after White Town on the same mornings, so the van is already in the old town and simply crosses the canal. Most of Heritage Town is finished well before 9.30 am.
What makes this zone different from every other one we serve is not the streets. It is the market at the end of them.
The market is next door. Here is where we help.
Grand Bazaar — Goubert Market — is the city's main produce market and it is a five-minute walk from most of this zone. Many households here have shopped it every morning for decades, at effectively zero delivery cost because they carry it home themselves. We are not going to pretend a van beats that for a kilo of onions and a bunch of coriander. It does not.
Where we are genuinely useful is the things the bazaar run does not solve. A standing weekly order for a working household that cannot get to the market by 7 am. The Small Box at ₹499 on a Wednesday, so the week's vegetables simply arrive. Day-boat sankara at ₹340 a kilo, cleaned and cut at the packing table, which the bazaar will sell you whole and unscaled. Auroville-bioregion organic greens and exotics like basil and lettuce that the bazaar stocks unreliably if at all, and that the heritage guest houses and cafes here actually need. And rice, dhal and oil in 5 kg packs on a monthly rhythm, so nobody is carrying sacks back from Ambour Salai.
Treat us as the standing order and the specialist lines, and keep the bazaar for the daily handful. That is the honest division of labour on these streets, and it is the one that works.
Practical notes for this zone
How the drop works here
- The van parks on Mission Street or the nearest wide corner and the driver walks in; this is normal, not a delay
- Give a shop name or a temple as a landmark rather than a door number alone
- Guest houses and kitchens are dropped first, 6.45 to 8 am, before breakfast service
- On bazaar mornings the last drops can run a few minutes past 9 am
- The 4–7 pm top-up run reaches this zone on route days for orders placed before 11 am
What is worth ordering here
- The Small Box at ₹499 — the standing weekly order, Wednesday mornings
- Day-boat sankara at ₹340/kg, cleaned and cut — the cleaning is the point
- Auroville organic greens and exotics the bazaar does not carry reliably
- Coconut from Kirumampakkam at ₹38 a piece
- Rice, dhal and oil in 5 kg packs on a monthly rhythm
Questions we answer daily
Which days do you deliver to Heritage Town?
Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, in a 7 to 10 am window, with an 8 pm cutoff the evening before. The zone covers the Tamil Quarter, Mission Street, Nehru Street, Bussy Street and Ambour Salai, and because the streets are close together the whole round usually clears before 9.30 am.
Why order delivery when Grand Bazaar is a five-minute walk?
Often you should just walk, and we will say so. We earn our place for a standing weekly order, for the Small Box at Rs 499, for day-boat sankara cleaned at Rs 340 a kilo, and for Auroville organic greens the bazaar does not stock reliably. The household minimum is Rs 300.
Can the van reach my street in the Tamil Quarter?
The lanes here are narrow and several are one-way, so the van parks on Mission Street or the nearest wide corner and the driver walks the last fifty metres. Give a shop or temple as a landmark on your first order. On bazaar mornings the final drops can run a few minutes past 9 am.
Do you supply heritage guesthouses and cafes here?
Yes. Guest houses and kitchens are dropped first on the round, between 6.45 and 8 am, so produce is in before breakfast service. There is a Rs 300 household minimum, but trade accounts run on standing orders with GST invoicing; the restaurant and guesthouse supply page has the terms.
What is the minimum order and the delivery charge?
A Rs 300 minimum per delivery for households, free delivery once the invoice reaches Rs 500, and a flat Rs 40 below that. The Small Box at Rs 499 includes delivery and has no separate minimum, which makes it the simplest weekly order on these streets.
When does the weekly box arrive in Heritage Town?
Wednesday mornings in the 7 to 10 am window. The Small Box at Rs 499 is the common one here — eight everyday vegetables, two bunches of keerai or herbs and about a kilo of seasonal fruit, enough for two people for a week.
Can I get a fixed delivery hour instead of a window?
You get a three-hour window rather than a fixed hour, because one long drop pushes everyone behind it. If you genuinely need a set time outside the window, we can arrange it for Rs 250 with 48 hours' notice — mostly used by guest houses with a strict breakfast service.
Can you deliver organic produce to this area?
Yes, Auroville-bioregion organic greens and vegetables ride the same morning round, free above Rs 500. For native rice and millets, Samarpanam on Ambour Salai is minutes away and worth knowing about — they take WhatsApp orders three days a week; we publish prices and deliver on four mornings.
