Delivery in Villianur, where half the vegetables are grown anyway
Two mornings a week in the commune that supplies a good part of our own buying — which makes this the one zone where we have to be honest about what we are actually selling you.
In short
Villianur, Mouroungapakkam and the temple-town side are on the Tuesday and Friday route, delivered 8–11 am, cutoff 8 pm the evening before. Box morning is Friday. Household minimum ₹300, free delivery above ₹500. Beans, drumstick and greens on our list are grown within about 5 km of this zone.

The honest position of a vegetable service in a farming commune
Villianur is a farming commune. The beans, drumstick, greens and a share of the gourds on our daily price list are grown within a few kilometres of the houses we deliver to, and our buyer is at gates around here at 5 am on the same mornings the van comes through. There is something faintly absurd about that and it deserves saying out loud rather than being dressed up.
So what are we actually selling in Villianur? Not proximity to the farm — you have that. Three things instead:
- Assortment. A farm gate sells you what that farm grew. We arrive with forty lines from six sources, including the Nilgiris carrots and potatoes and the harbour fish that no local gate has.
- Weighed and priced. Everything on a digital scale, with the rate published that morning and the Grand Bazaar range printed next to it. The farm-gate transaction is a good one but it is not a transparent one.
- The morning back. Two hours of buying, carrying and haggling replaced by a message the evening before.
If you are a household here that already buys direct from a neighbour's field, we are not going to argue you out of it, and the honest answer is that you are buying better than our customers in White Town are.
The area, and getting a van to it
The zone covers Villianur town around the Thirukameswarar temple, the residential roads either side of the arterial route into the city, Mouroungapakkam, and the cluster of villages and farm roads that sit between them. It is the most spread-out zone we serve inside the Puducherry district, which is why it runs on two mornings rather than three and takes the full 8 to 11 am window.
Addresses here are best given as a landmark plus a phone number — a temple, a school, a shop, a turning off the main road. Several of the farm-side roads are unsurfaced and become difficult after heavy rain in October and November; on those days the driver will call and ask you to meet at the nearest metalled turning, which is not ideal and is better than a van in a ditch.
Villianur's temple festival, when the streets around the temple close, is the one predictable disruption in the year. We deliver to the edge of the closure and call.
What this zone actually orders
Moves well here
- Nilgiris lines nobody grows locally — carrot, potato, cabbage, cauliflower, beetroot
- Harbour fish, which is 12 km away and might as well be 100 without a vehicle
- Rice, millets, dhal and cold-pressed oil in 5 kg packs
- Milk, curd and eggs on a standing line
- The Family Box on Friday mornings, for households that want the assortment without the trip
Barely moves, and rightly
- Drumstick, beans and keerai — people here have better access than we do
- Coconut, which comes off a tree down the road
- Banana, for the same reason
- Exotic salad, which is a town and Auroville product
- Pre-arrival villa stocking, which is not what this zone is
Questions we answer daily
Which days do you deliver to Villianur?
Tuesday and Friday mornings, in the 8 to 11 am window, with the cutoff at 8 pm the evening before. Two mornings rather than three because the zone is spread out along the arterial road and the drops are far apart. Mouroungapakkam is covered on the same run.
Why would I order vegetables when they are grown here?
For the lines that are not — Nilgiris carrot and potato, harbour fish, dairy, staples — and for assortment, a weighed price and the morning back. If you already buy beans and drumstick from a neighbour's field, that is a better purchase than ours and we will say so.
Do you deliver to Mouroungapakkam?
Yes, on the same Tuesday and Friday run. Give us a landmark and a phone number rather than a street number — a temple, a school or a shop works best. Some farm-side roads become difficult after heavy October rain, and on those days the driver calls to meet at the nearest metalled turning.
Is the minimum order different here?
No. ₹300 per delivery for households, free delivery once the invoice reaches ₹500 and a flat ₹40 below it, exactly as in every other Puducherry zone. Only Karaikal, the Saturday run 140 km away, is on different terms.
When does the box arrive in Villianur?
Friday mornings, between 8 and 11 am. The Family Box at ₹899 is the most common here because the value is in the assortment — twelve lines from six sources, including the Nilgiris vegetables and the fruit that does not grow on this side of town.
Do you buy from farms in Villianur?
Yes. Beans, drumstick, greens and a share of the gourds on the daily list come from gates in and around this commune, bought between 5 and 6 am. On a Tuesday or Friday that makes a Villianur delivery about the shortest journey any vegetable on the van makes.
